Fun Things To Do In and around Hernando Beach

The name Hernando Beach is a "misnomer" as there is no beach in Hernando Beach but there are many fun activities for residents and visitors. Recreational and charter boating, fishing, diving, snorkeling, hiking, biking, canoeing, paddle boarding, kayaking, bird and wildlife watching, and some of the most beautiful sunsets that you have ever seen. On the Gulf of Mexico to the west of Hernando Beach we have great fishing both inshore and off shore, plus you can canoe, kayak or paddle board in our canals and shallow coastal estuaries.  Hernando Beach has 4 public launch ramps and parking  for vehicles with  boat trailers. To the east of Hernando Beach is the Weeki Wachee preserve. There you will find all kinds of wildlife, deer, fox, eagles, falcons, gopher tortoise, beautiful lakes, and much more, plus the preserve offers great hiking and biking trails. Visitors have occasionally seen our shy Florida Black Bears there as the preserve is part of Florida's Black Bear trail for a small population of our protected Black Bears. Hernando County is also one of the major birding sites with a very diverse population of bird species. Every December the residents of Hernando Beach hold a "Light Up The Beach" decorating contest. The residents of the "Beach" go all out with lighting displays on their homes both in the front and the back on the canals, and even their boats moored at their docks! Don't forget to attend our annual Cardboard Boat Race and Seafood Festival in the fall.

Hernando Beach also has many wonderful eateries from casual dining to fine dining. Our local restaurants and lounges host many fun  activities such as karaoke, game night parties, dance parties plus great local singers and bands. The Hernando Beach Coast Guard Auxiliary has courses on boating skills and seamanship, radio operation and GPS, and conducts vessel safety exams. You may also want to join the Hernando Beach Yacht Club, or the Hernando Beach Club, a private social club for its members. Hernando Beach's VFW Post 9236 is open to the public.  Below are links to activities you might enjoy in Hernando Beach, on our Gulf of Mexico waters, and in Hernando County.
